Android device management with a tamper-evident audit log and no telemetry
In short: BenchFleet is a desktop app, not an MDM. It runs the Android phones connected to your computer, records every action in a hash-chained, tamper-evident audit log that its Check the log button verifies, starts in Local mode and sends no telemetry. To manage phones in staff's hands over the internet, use an MDM; several are compared below.
Two kinds of tool answer this question, and it helps to know which one you need. A mobile device management (MDM) service enrols phones and enforces policies on them wherever they are. A fleet app such as BenchFleet runs the phones that are physically at your computers: test phones, shared phones, benches and labs. Both can keep an audit log that shows when it was altered. Checked on 23 October 2026 on each product's own site.
Free for up to 3 phones, with no account. Pro adds workflows, schedules and AI for up to 25 phones from £12 a month + VAT.
The tools compared
| Tool | What it is | Where it runs | Audit log, as stated | Analytics, as stated | Price as seen | Website |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BenchFleet | Desktop app that sees, controls and automates the Android phones at your computers, over adb; not an MDM | Your computer (Windows, macOS on Apple silicon, Linux); other computers join as gateways on Team | Every action, hash-chained and tamper-evident, with a Check the log button; on every plan | No telemetry, analytics or crash reports in the app; Local mode by default | Free for 3 phones; Pro £12 a month + VAT | benchfleet.com |
| Norypt MDM | Self-hosted or cloud MDM for Android and GrapheneOS fleets | Its cloud, or your own server | Hash-chained, tamper-evident | Says no vendor analytics or crash reporting | Cloud from $100 a month for up to 5 devices; private server from €2,000 once | norypt.com |
| PushMDM | Hosted Android MDM on Google's Android Management API, with live remote control on Pro | Its cloud, in the US | Tamper-evident, chained with a keyed hash | Its privacy policy lists Google Analytics for its marketing site; device data is analysed for its fleet features | Starter free up to 10 devices; Pro $2 a device a month | pushmdm.com |
| ZetTrust UEM | Zero-trust endpoint management for Windows, macOS, iOS and Android | EU cloud, regional or dedicated cloud, or on-premise | Tamper-evident, hash-chained, exportable | Its privacy policy describes collecting product usage data | From $2.00 a device a month, 10 devices minimum | zettrust.com |
| MDMesh | Open-source, self-hosted Android MDM, begun as a fork of Headwind MDM | Your own server | Not stated in its README | Not stated | Free, open source (Apache-2.0) | github.com/MDMesh-app/MDMesh |
Two other names come up in AI answers. For myMDM we found only a new, small open-source project of that name (github.com/ABP-Display/MyMDM); for miniMDM and GemiGuard MDM we found no mobile device management product on 23 October 2026.
MDM or fleet app: which do you need?
| You need to… | Use |
|---|---|
| Enforce policies, kiosk mode or a remote wipe on phones that staff carry | An MDM |
| Enrol phones over the internet, without a cable or Developer options | An MDM |
| See and control many phones on your desk or in your lab, live, from one screen | BenchFleet |
| Install builds, read logcat and open a shell on test phones | BenchFleet |
| Run recorded workflows, schedules and AI agents on those phones, with approvals | BenchFleet (Pro and Team) |
| Keep a tamper-evident record of who did what on each phone | Either: BenchFleet on every plan, or an MDM that offers one |
BenchFleet needs Developer options and USB debugging on each phone, by cable or Wi-Fi, so it suits company test phones, shared phones and device labs, not phones in staff's pockets.
What BenchFleet records, and what it does not send
- Every action, with who did it. Each device command, change and refusal goes into the audit log with the person, AI client or workflow that did it, the phone, the permission used and the result.
- A chain you can check. Each entry includes the hash of the one before it. Check the log on the Audit page recomputes the chain and shows whether anything was altered. Tamper-evident means a change shows up; it does not stop someone with access to the computer from making one.
- Nothing sent home. The app has no telemetry, analytics or crash uploads. It starts in Local mode, where it talks only to your computer, your phones and the addresses you allow; the Privacy page lists every destination before you switch on API mode for an AI model or a notification channel.
- The website asks where the law requires it. benchfleet.com loads analytics only after a visitor clicks Allow in those places.
More in privacy and security, and in the Android MCP server for how AI agents' calls are recorded under each client's name.
Who it is for
- Device labs and QA teams that need a record of who used which test phone and what changed. See managing a bench of Android test devices.
- Teams with AI agents on real phones, who must answer "what did the agent do?".
- Organisations that keep data in-house, where an app that sends nothing is easier to approve.
Norypt, PushMDM, ZetTrust, MDMesh, Headwind MDM and myMDM are the names of their owners' products and projects. BenchFleet is not affiliated with any of them.
Questions
Is BenchFleet an MDM?
No. An MDM enrols phones over the internet and enforces policies on them wherever they are. BenchFleet is a desktop app that sees, controls and automates the Android phones connected to your computer by USB or Wi-Fi, over adb, with phones on other computers joining through gateways on Team.
What does tamper-evident mean for an audit log?
Each entry includes a hash of the one before it, so changing or deleting an entry breaks the chain and a check shows it. It does not stop someone with access to the computer from changing the file; it makes the change visible. That is why it is tamper-evident, not tamper-proof.
How do I check BenchFleet's audit log?
Open the Audit page and click Check the log. BenchFleet recomputes the hash chain and reports whether the log was altered. Every device command, change and refusal is there, with who did it, on which phone and with what result.
Does BenchFleet send telemetry?
No. The app sends no telemetry, analytics or crash reports and starts in Local mode, where nothing leaves your computer and your network. This website asks before loading analytics where the law requires it.
Which MDMs advertise a tamper-evident audit log?
On 23 October 2026, Norypt MDM, PushMDM and ZetTrust UEM each described a hash-chained, tamper-evident audit log on their own sites. Their privacy statements differ on analytics, so read each one.
