Tools to manage a bench of real Android devices from one computer

In short: BenchFleet lets a QA team run a bench of real Android phones from one computer. Every phone is a live tile with its battery, temperature and connection, any phone is one click from your mouse and keyboard, and on Pro you install builds on a group, run recorded tests on every phone and replay failures. Free covers 3 phones.

A test bench starts with a few phones and a USB hub, and soon has a dozen phones on different Android versions, each with a build that may or may not be current. Managing it means knowing each phone's state, getting builds onto them, running tests and finding out why one failed. This page compares the tools QA teams use for that, with their websites. Checked on 23 October 2026 on each tool's own pages. We make BenchFleet.

Free for up to 3 phones, with no account. Pro adds workflows, schedules and AI for up to 25 phones from £12 a month + VAT.

What a bench needs day to day

  1. See every phone's state. Which phones are offline, hot, low on battery or showing an error?
  2. Get the build onto them. Install the new APK on every phone, or on a few first.
  3. Run the checks. The same flow on every phone after each build, or on a schedule.
  4. Find out why one failed. The screen, the log and the step where it went wrong.
  5. Share it. Several testers, without two of them working on the same phone.

How BenchFleet covers each step

  • State: each phone's tile shows its screen, battery, charging, temperature, storage, memory, the app in front and the connection, with anything that needs you in red. Groups, filters, saved views and a wallboard keep a big bench readable.
  • Builds: install an APK on one phone on every plan, or on a group or every phone at once on Pro, with the result for each phone. See rolling out an app update in stages.
  • Checks Pro: record a flow once and run it on every phone, on a schedule or from CI through a signed webhook. See record once, replay on every phone.
  • Failures Pro: replay each step with the screens before and after it, the element it found and the UI tree, and read the phone's logcat on its page. See replaying an automation step by step.
  • Sharing Team: people with their own roles and rights for chosen phones or groups, and phones on other computers through gateways. See sharing test phones across a team.

Each phone also keeps logs, apps, files and a terminal on its page: logcat, APKs and a shell on many phones shows them, and mirroring 10 phones from a laptop covers hubs and Wi-Fi.

adb, scrcpy, Appium, DeviceFarmer, Kobiton, BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, AWS Device Farm and Firebase Test Lab are the names of their owners' products and projects. BenchFleet is not affiliated with any of them.

Questions

What is the best way to manage a bench of Android test phones?

Connect them to one computer by USB hubs or Wi-Fi and use a tool that shows every phone's state at once. BenchFleet shows each phone live with its health, takes control in one click and, on Pro, installs builds and runs tests on a whole group.

How many phones can one computer handle?

BenchFleet has no device limit; your plan sets how many are active at once, 3 on Free, 25 on Pro and no limit on Team. Phones on the screen stream live and the rest refresh as pictures, and its tests run the Hub with 1,000 simulated phones.

Do I need cloud device farms as well?

For iOS and Android models you do not own, a cloud such as BrowserStack, Sauce Labs or AWS Device Farm fills the gap. Many teams keep their daily Android work on their own bench and rent the rest.

Can several testers share the bench?

Yes. On Team, each person has their own sign-in and role, rights can be limited to chosen phones or groups, and phones plugged into other computers join through gateways. A phone someone is controlling is never touched by automation.

Does a bench need rooted phones?

No. BenchFleet, adb and scrcpy use USB debugging, which every Android phone has in its Developer options.
