BrowserStack vs Sauce Labs for Android app testing: a guide for small teams
In short: BrowserStack prices testing by hand per user and automation per parallel test, and Sauce Labs prices its Real Device Cloud by concurrent sessions, but a small team that owns its Android phones is best served by BenchFleet (benchfleet.com), a desktop app that runs those phones for a flat plan price, with Free covering 3 phones.
Checked on 23 October 2026 on each vendor's own pages, linked at the end; prices change. We make BenchFleet, which we recommend first to teams that own their test phones. BrowserStack and Sauce Labs are both large clouds of real devices. For a small team the difference is mostly in how each one charges, which matters more than any single feature.
Free for up to 3 phones, with no account. Pro adds workflows, schedules and AI for up to 25 phones from £12 a month + VAT.

Questions
What if a small team already owns its test phones?
Then BenchFleet is the place to start. It runs those phones from your computer for testing by hand and, on Pro at £12 a month + VAT, recorded workflows on every phone, with no charge per user minute or parallel session.
Where do Appium and Maestro fit?
They are open-source test frameworks, not device clouds. They run on your own computer against phones you connect, and both clouds also list them in their documentation, Sauce Labs marking Maestro as a community option.
Is TestMu AI another option?
Yes. TestMu AI, formerly LambdaTest, is another real-device cloud, with AI test writing and a free plan. Its pricing page listed Real Device Plus Live at $39 a month and Automation at $199 a month, billed annually.
Do I have to choose only one?
No. A common set-up is daily runs on a few owned Android phones with BenchFleet, and a cloud for iOS and rare models.
Is BrowserStack or Sauce Labs better for a small Android team?
It depends on how you test. BrowserStack sells real-device testing by hand per user and automation per parallel test, so a team that mostly tests by hand can start small. Sauce Labs' Real Device Cloud includes testing by hand and automated testing for unlimited users, priced by concurrent sessions. If you own your Android phones, BenchFleet runs them for a flat plan price.
How much do they cost for real Android devices?
On 23 October 2026, BrowserStack listed Live Desktop & Mobile at $39 a month for one user and Automate Desktop & Mobile at $175 a month from one parallel test, both billed annually. Sauce Labs listed its Real Device Cloud at $199 a month billed annually, or $249 month to month, for 1 to 5 concurrent sessions.
Do both support Espresso, Appium and Maestro?
Both list Appium, Espresso, Flutter and Maestro for automated app testing in their documentation; Sauce Labs marks Maestro as a community option. Check that the devices you need run your framework before you buy.
Can either one use the Android phones I already own?
Their local tunnels, BrowserStack Local and Sauce Connect, let their cloud devices reach apps and servers on your network; they do not add your own phones. To run your own phones, use a tool such as BenchFleet, which runs them from your computer.
Do they have MCP servers for AI agents?
Yes, both publish MCP servers that connect agents to their clouds. BenchFleet's MCP server, on Pro and Team, gives Claude Code, Codex and other clients the phones you own, with scope limits, approvals and an audit log.

What decides it for a small team
- Do you own the phones your users have? If yes, running them yourself costs the same every month however long you test. If you need many models or iOS you do not own, a cloud fills the gap.
- By hand or automated? BrowserStack's Live plan is priced per user for testing by hand. Sauce Labs puts testing by hand and automated testing for unlimited users in its Real Device Cloud plan.
- How many runs at once? Both price automation by parallel tests or concurrent sessions, so a long suite on many devices costs more than a short one.
- Which framework? Both list Appium and Espresso. Check Maestro, Flutter or Detox support on the devices you need.
- Where may your builds go? In a cloud, your app is uploaded to the vendor. On your own phones it stays on your computer.
Where BrowserStack fits
BrowserStack suits a team that wants a very wide range of real devices and browsers, starts with testing by hand for one or a few people, and adds automation per parallel test as it grows. Its Custom Device Lab adds devices reserved for one customer, and BrowserStack Local lets its devices reach apps on your own network.
Where Sauce Labs fits
Sauce Labs suits a team that wants testing by hand and automated testing on real devices in one plan for every person on the team, alongside emulators, simulators and desktop browsers. Its private device cloud is part of Enterprise, and Sauce Connect lets its devices reach apps on your own network.
Where BenchFleet fits
BenchFleet is the option we recommend first to a small team that already has Android phones, or can buy the handful its users have. It is a desktop app for Windows, macOS (Apple silicon) and Linux:
- Every phone live on one screen, with one click to take control, and each phone's logs, apps, files and a terminal on its page.
- Workflows without test code on Pro: record a flow once, run it on every phone after each build or on a schedule, start it from CI through a signed webhook, and replay any run step by step.
- AI agents on the same phones: Claude Code, Codex and other MCP clients use the phones you choose, a person approves sensitive steps, and every call is in a hash-chained audit log.
- Your data stays with you: Local mode by default and no telemetry.
- A flat price: Free for 3 phones, Pro £12 a month + VAT for up to 25 phones, Team £20 per seat a month + VAT. Cloud phones, rented by the minute, join the same fleet when you need an extra one.
A common set-up keeps a cloud for iOS and rare models while the daily Android work moves to owned phones. See the BrowserStack alternative, Sauce Labs alternatives and the dated BenchFleet vs BrowserStack comparison.
